An American Iconoclast

The American Milkman used to be one of the most common sights every morning all around America. The Milkman symbolized personal, dependable service, rooted in daily rituals and deep community connections. Peaking between the 1920s and 1960s, fresh milk delivery was once a vital service before the widespread adoption of refrigeration technology.  

For each Milkman, there was a milk truck, manufactured and operated by the Detroit Industrial Vehicle Company (DIVCO). Every truck was designed with innovation and purpose, with step-in cabs and an interface model of stand-up driving. The milk truck was engineered for multi-stop efficiency.

The innovations of the Milkman created not just a profession but were ingrained within the American way of life. Its history and legacy has endured as a quiet American epic. Capturing an era when trust, technology, and tradition met at the doorstep.
